Erdogan and Putin did not come to any solution on the extension of the Grain Agreement

On Monday, September 4, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived in Sochi for a meeting with Russian dictator Putin.

Negotiations between Erdogan and Putin on the renewal of the Grains Agreement have turned out to be fruitless. According to the Turkish president, alternative versions of the Grain Agreement are inferior to the initial agreements in terms of security.

“The alternative proposals that have been put on the agenda have not lived up to expectations in terms of security and other aspects,” he said, adding that the deal “has played a huge role for the poorest countries.”

The President of Turkey assured that his country continues to pay attention to Russia’s concerns regarding the implementation of the Grain Agreement.

“We will prepare a new package in consultations with the UN, and I believe that we will be able to achieve a result. Turkey will make every effort, and we believe that we will achieve a result in terms of this agreement as soon as possible,” Erdogan added.

In turn, Putin said that the Russian Federation plans to organize the supply of 1 million tons of grain to Turkey for processing with the aim of further free supply to the poorest countries.

“In this sense, we count on the help of the state of Qatar, which is ready to support the poorest countries for humanitarian reasons,” Putin said.

In his opinion, the obligations under the agreement, which concerned Russia, were never fulfilled, and Moscow is ready to return to it, provided that they are fulfilled in full.
