Erdogan responded to mutual attacks on ships in the Black Sea

Ankara expressed “strong concern” about the situation in the Black Sea and declared that strikes on commercial vessels were unacceptable.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Ankara “strictly adheres to the Montreux Convention, preventing the spread of war in the Black Sea.” TRT reports this.

According to him, the recent mutual strikes have created a significant threat to the safety of navigation in the region.

The Turkish leader emphasized that strikes on civilian and commercial vessels are not beneficial to either side and undermine the stability of maritime logistics.

“We have clearly warned both sides about this,” Erdogan emphasized.

As we will recall, in late November, Ukraine struck two Russian tankers under sanctions off the coast of Turkey. Later, on December 2, another Russian tanker was attacked near Turkey.

In turn, on the night of December 13, Russia carried out one of the most massive shellings of the Odessa region. Two civilian vessels under the Turkish flag were damaged as a result of the attack on the ports of Great Odesa.
