EU adds nearly 200 tankers from Russia’s “shadow fleet” to sanctions list

The new restrictions are to be included in the 17th package of sanctions, which is scheduled for adoption on May 20.
The new, 17th package of EU sanctions against Russia envisages expanding the list of vessels of the so-called “shadow fleet” of the Russian Federation to approximately 200 units. This is reported by “European Pravda”.
According to the source of the publication, the European Commission has recently adjusted its initial proposal of May 6, in particular at the request of several member states. As a result, the list of Russian tankers involved in oil transportation in circumvention of sanctions has expanded significantly: from over a hundred vessels to about two hundred.
The new package of restrictions is expected to be adopted at a meeting of the EU Council on May 20.
Last week, the United Kingdom has already introduced large-scale sanctions against the Kremlin’s “shadow fleet”. Thus, the West is increasing pressure on schemes that allow Russia to circumvent restrictions and continue to earn from oil exports.
