EU countries complained about the agreement on the import of Ukrainian grain

The European Commission received a letter from 12 member countries, which complained about the lack of consultation with them regarding the agreement on Ukrainian grain.

EU member states complained that Brussels did not consult with them regarding the agreement on the import of grain from Ukraine. We are talking about a temporary ban introduced by Poland, Bulgaria, Hungary, Slovakia and Romania, writes European Pravda.

“I can confirm that we have received the letter and we will respond to it. But at this stage, we will not give additional comments,” said the spokeswoman of the European Commission, Dana Spinant, at a briefing in Brussels.

According to her, when at the end of April the agreement on the import of grain from Ukraine to five EU countries was negotiated, the European Commission informed all countries through their representatives in Brussels in accordance with the procedure.

The spokeswoman reminded that the introduced restrictive measures are valid until June 5, then new agreements will enter into force, and according to them, the European Commission has the authority to introduce similar steps that are in effect now.

“If there are scenarios, such as now, in which preventive measures will be required, we are ready to consider them,” the spokeswoman emphasized.

The European Commission also emphasized that, in general, problems with the import of grain were primarily caused by Russia, blocking the Black Sea.

As previously reported by USM, five EU countries appealed to the European Commission with a call to introduce protection mechanisms for the farmers of these countries against the increased influx of Ukrainian agricultural products.
