Exports through Romanian ports could reach 2.5 million tons in the first quarter of the season

At the beginning of the 2025/26 season, Romania is actively shipping wheat and changing sales markets. Saudi Arabia has become the main importer.

For the period from July to September, shipments could reach about 2.5 million tons, ASAP Agri reports.

“Based on the current pace of shipments in Romanian ports, exports could reach 2.5 million tons in the first quarter of the season, compared to just over 2 million tons a year earlier,” said Christina Serebryakova, CEO of ASAP Agri and broker at Atria Brokers.

According to her, the main importer of Romanian wheat this season was Saudi Arabia, followed by Jordan. Last year, the main destination was Egypt. In addition, Romania is now among the leaders among wheat suppliers to the EU market.

It should be noted that an additional factor in the growth of exports was the record harvest: according to the European Commission, in 2025, wheat production in Romania is expected to be 12.9 million tons, while in 2024 it was 10 million tons.
