Failed attack on the south of Odesa region: Russian naval drones exploded in Russian waters

An attempt to attack Ukrainian targets in the south of Odesa region using Russian surface drones was unsuccessful.

In early June, the Russian military attempted to use experimental sea drones against targets in the Odesa region, but the devices exploded before entering Ukrainian territorial waters. This was reported by the head of the Defense Intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, writes Ukrinform.

“They detonated in their waters, they did not even reach our territorial waters,” Budanov noted.

For comparison, Ukrainian Magura sea drones demonstrate high efficiency: as of June 2025, they had hit 22 targets, of which 15 were completely destroyed. These were Russian ships, boats, two helicopters and two fighter jets.

At the same time, according to Ukrainian intelligence, the Russian side has also begun forming units of surface drones.

The Defense Intelligence unit of the Ministry of Defense Group 13 has replenished its fleet with a new MAGURA V7 “Konotop Witch” sea drone.
