Farmers lost $30 per ton due to the idling ships in the “grain corridor”
Ukrainian farmers received $30 in losses for each ton of cargo due to the downtime of vessels involved in the Grain Agreement.
A little less than 1,000 ships passed through the “Grain Corridor”, but at the same time farmers paid more than $1 billion in demurrage. UGA President Mykola Gorbachev told about this at the meeting of the UGA Grain Club, Elevatorist reports .
“With such a disparity, we must develop alternative ways of export, because we received such losses at the current cost of ships. If the value tomorrow will be different, then this figure can be measured in more than one billion dollars. Therefore, alternative ways are very important,” Mykola Gorbachev emphasized.
According to UN data , four ships that left the ports of Odesa and Chornomorsk from June 26 to 30 are currently awaiting inspection by the JCC in the Bosphorus.
For example, the vessel Akdeniz M carries 30,000 tons of wheat to Turkey. Farmers may lose $900,000 due to the breakdown of this vessel (assuming losses of $30 per ton).
On the ship Agapi S, which is awaiting inspection to deliver 55,880 tons of corn to the Netherlands, the losses of farmers in the event of downtime will amount to more than $1.6 million.
The bulk carrier Captain V. Madias carries the largest cargo of the last ships — 63,423 tons of sunflower meal to China. So, farmers can lose more than $1.9 million on this vessel.
