Finland sent a large package of equipment to Ukraine to combat oil spills

The assistance includes oil skimmers, boom barriers, power supplies and personal protective equipment.
Finland has provided Ukraine with a large-scale assistance package for responding to oil spills. This was reported by the Finnish Embassy in Ukraine.
According to the diplomatic mission, this includes 35 trucks of equipment intended for the elimination of oil pollution. In particular, the Finnish Border Guard has provided Ukraine with oil skimmers with power supplies, boom barriers, personal protective equipment and other specialized equipment.
The embassy emphasized that responding to oil spills in the Black Sea is an important tool for minimizing environmental damage, as petroleum products contain substances that pose a serious threat to ecosystems. Even insignificant concentrations can lead to contamination of groundwater and water supply sources.
The equipment was provided in response to Ukraine’s urgent request through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.
As USM previously wrote, oil pollution resulting from the Russian attack on the port of Pivdennyi could remain on the bottom of the Black Sea for more than six years.
