France again did not let a Russian frigate into its ports

The Russian frigate “Standart” was not allowed to enter the port of Granville in France, where it was supposed to take part in the festival of sailboats.

As a reminder, the frigate is prohibited from entering European ports as part of the sanctions.

The Russian frigate “Standart” tried to enter the port of Granville, but the local administration forbade the ship to enter all ports of the department in general, GM writes. The administration explained the decision as compliance with European sanctions against the Russian Federation after the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

It is worth noting that earlier the ship was still able to get to another French port. So, on August 6, the ship was allowed to enter the port of La Rochelle for refueling.

“Standart” is a three-masted frigate, which is a replica of a ship that belonged to the Russian Tsar Peter I. The ship was built in 1999. Until June 2024, the frigate flew under the flag of the Russian Federation, until it was changed to the flag of the Cook Islands.

Previously, the Russian Federation constantly promoted sailboats to European maritime festivals. One such event is held in Brest, France. Russians were banned from entering Brest and participating in the festival last month.

Earlier, USM reported that France allowed the Russian “Peter I frigate” into the port despite the sanctions.
