France Detains Two Crew Members of Russian Shadow Fleet Tanker

French authorities have detained two senior crew members of a Russian “shadow fleet” tanker suspected of involvement in launching drones in Denmark.

This was reported by Le Monde.

On October 1, Brest city prosecutor Stephane Kellenberger announced the launch of an investigation due to “lack of confirmation of the vessel’s belonging to a specific country” and refusal to comply with the demands of the French authorities.

He also said that two crew members who introduced themselves as the tanker’s captain and his first mate were taken into custody.

As we will recall, Reuters previously reported that France had detained a Russian “shadow fleet” tanker on suspicion of violating sanctions. But later it became known that the vessel may be involved in launching drones over Denmark.
