FT: Germany instructs its ports not to accept tankers with Russian LNG
The German Ministry of Economics has instructed state-owned import terminals to refuse LNG supplies from Russia.
This is reported by the Financial Times with reference to a letter from the German Ministry of Economics.
In the letter, the German Ministry of Economics orders Deutsche Energy Terminal “not to accept any supplies of Russian LNG” after the terminal notified Berlin of the planned supply.
The ministry noted that the order was issued to protect “public interests” and called on the operator to refuse Russian LNG until further notice.
“Allowing such supplies would contradict the very purpose of creating the terminals – ensuring the independence of Germany and the EU from Russian gas,” the document says.
As a reminder, the new package of EU sanctions will be directed against LNG and the Russian tanker fleet.
