Fuel oil emissions again detected on the Russian coast after tanker accident in the Kerch Strait

Pollution was recorded on four sections of the coast of the Krasnodar Kray – from the central beach of Anapa to the village of Vityazevo.
In Russia, spots of fuel oil that leaked after a tanker accident near the Kerch Strait have again been noticed. This is reported by “Crimean Wind”.
The operational headquarters assures that it is about “old” fuel oil that rose from the bottom after a storm. They also stated that the wreckage of the tankers “Volgoneft-212” and “Volgoneft-239”, which crashed during a storm on December 15, 2024, is allegedly covered with a “sarcophagus”.
In a day, 98 bags of garbage and fragments of oil products thrown up by the storm were collected from the coast. At the same time, volunteers working on site assess the situation critically. They note that “the picture is far from ideal”, and pollution is recorded not only in the sand. Fuel oil and oily fractions are also found on birds.
USM also previously wrote that over 1,000 birds died due to an oil leak after the Russian attack on the port of Pivdenny in the Odesa region.
