German Foreign Ministry announces new sanctions against Russia’s “shadow fleet”

German Foreign Minister Johannes Wadeful has announced plans to step up surveillance of the Russian naval fleet under sanctions after suspicious incidents in the Baltic Sea.
This was reported by Zeit.
Wadeful said that “the security situation has continued to deteriorate in recent months.”
“Cut cables, disrupted signals and suspicious vessels are a cause for great concern,” the German Foreign Minister said.
He then announced further patrols and new sanctions against the Russian “shadow fleet.”
“As neighbors, as NATO and as the EU, we are doing everything we can to counter hybrid threats, including additional patrols. Russia poses a threat to all of us in the Baltic region,” Wadeful said.
He called the Russian fleet a serious security threat — he said new sanctions against these vessels were being prepared.
“This will also help Ukraine, because the shadow fleet transports oil every day that Russia sells to circumvent sanctions,” the head of the German foreign ministry added.
