German politician plans to lift the embargo on Russian oil

The founder of the ultra-left party BSW, Sara Wagenknecht, announced plans to seek the lifting of the embargo on oil from Russia.

As Stern writes, we are talking about such plans in the case of the party’s participation in the state government of the federal state of Brandenburg.

Sara Wagenknecht wants to ensure that the oil refinery in Schwedt is again supplied with Russian oil if she takes part in the government of Brandenburg.

“It would be better than begging for oil for a long and expensive time without being able to reach full capacity,” said the politician.

In her opinion, the government of the state of Brandenburg, to which the refinery belongs, will not accept the embargo and the uncertain situation in Schwedt, but will exert political pressure on Berlin.

In the first half of 2024, the capacity of the plant was only 76.2%. In pre-war times in 2021, the capacity was 98.8%. Compliance with the oil embargo, according to the politician, is a “stupid policy at the expense of Brandenburg and the entire country.”

It should be noted that in September 2024 new state parliaments will be elected in Saxony, Thuringia and Brandenburg. Alternative for Germany and the Sarah Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) said they would focus on peace and migration. Both parties oppose the supply of arms to Ukraine and for immediate negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.

According to polls, Alternative for Germany claims 24% of the vote in Brandenburg, making it the strongest party. Meanwhile, the Sara Wagenknecht Alliance, which is participating in the elections for the first time, received 17%.

It will be recalled that due to the full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine, the federal government stopped the import of Russian oil at the beginning of 2023 and redirected the supply to other sources. However, it was not possible to reach the pre-war capacities.

In 1989, Sarah Wagenknecht joined the Marxist-Leninist Socialist Unified Party, which ruled the socialist German Democratic Republic. Since the formation of the traditionally pro-Russian party Die Linke in 2007, Wagenknecht has been its most visible figure.

In October in Berlin, Wagenknecht, together with several like-minded people, told journalists about the creation of an association that bears her name – “Sahra Wagenknecht’s Alliance for Reason and Justice” (Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht, abbreviated as BSW).
