Germany opposes bans on the import of Ukrainian grain

The German government is against the introduction by individual EU countries of unilateral bans on the import of agricultural products from Ukraine.

In particular, the Minister of Food and Agriculture of Germany Cem Ezdemir spoke out against the bans, writes DW.

The minister also emphasized the need to show solidarity with the people of Ukraine who are suffering due to the ongoing invasion of Russian troops.

“It is necessary to do everything if the export route of agricultural products through the Black Sea will continue to be used by Russia as pressure,” Ezdemir emphasized.

We will remind, on April 15, Poland and Hungary unilaterally temporarily banned the import of grain, oil crops and some other agricultural products until June 30. In addition, on May 2, the European Commission temporarily banned the import of wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower seeds from Ukraine to Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia. The countries subsequently committed to lifting their unilateral import bans.
