Grain agreement: the US called on the UN Security Council to put pressure on Russia
The United States called on the UN Security Council to pressure Russia to extend the Grain Agreement.
Russia continues its attempts to turn food into a weapon of war. In order to prevent this, the UN countries must prevent the Kremlin’s efforts to finally block the Grain Agreement.
US Permanent Representative Linda Thomas-Greenfield stated this at the UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine on June 23,Ukrinform reports.
“Colleagues, we must force Russia to remain in the Black Sea Grain Initiative,” said the deputy representative.
According to her, the longer the war lasts, the more Ukrainians and the whole world will suffer.
“The consequences of this war are now being felt all over the world. Why? Because President Putin is using food as a weapon of war and thereby exacerbating the global food security deficit,” Thomas-Greenfield stressed.
She said that Russia’s blockade of grain supplies had a particular impact on countries in Africa and the Middle East. Therefore, reports that Russia is once again threatening to withdraw from the initiative “cause deep concern.”
We will remind you that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine believes that the Russian Federation will withdraw from the Grain Agreement in July.
This decision of the Russians is facilitated by the completion of the construction of the terminal for the export of ammonia. At the same time, the victory in the elections of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan frees the terrorist country from the need to do him a favor.
