Grain for 23 million: Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office and NABU are investigating the theft of Ukrainian wheat
Two directors of state-owned enterprises are suspected of embezzling 5,000 tons of wheat worth UAH 23 million.
The ex-director of a state-owned enterprise and the director of a private enterprise became suspects in the case of grain theft. We are talking about 5 thousand tons of winter and spring wheat, reports the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.
Agricultural products belonged to the state enterprise “Proskurivka Research Farm” of the Myroniv Wheat Institute named after V.M. Crafts of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine.
The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office noted that from July to August 2018, individuals illegally took possession of the property of the state company. In order to hide the illegal sale, these persons concluded fictitious contracts, according to which 5 thousand tons of grain were supposedly transferred to a private enterprise for safekeeping.
Later, the wheat was resold. Damages are estimated at over UAH 22.9 million.
The actions of the former director of the state-owned enterprise were qualified under Part 5 of Art. 191 (appropriation, embezzlement of property or possession of it by abuse of official position), Part 1 of Art. 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (official forgery).
The director of a private enterprise is indicted under Part 3 of Art. 27, Part 5 of Art. 191, Part 3 of Art. 27, Part 1 of Art. 366, Part 2 of Art. 209 (money laundering) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
