“Grain Initiative”: after 2 months of work, 5.5 million tons of agricultural products have been exported
The Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine summed up the results of two months of work of the grain initiative.
So, in August-September, 241 ships were sent from the ports of Odesa, Chornomorsk and “Pivdennyi”. “Grain initiative” works successfully. In September, compared to August, the number of exported products increased by more than 2 times, and the number of ships that left the ports – by almost 3 times. Such indicators testify to the world’s trust in the “grain corridor” and the readiness of global institutions and businesses to participate in the purchase and transportation of Ukrainian agricultural products,” the Ministry of Infrastructure reported.
In addition, in cooperation with the UN World Food Program, 4 ships have already left with more than 120 thousand tons of wheat for the population of Ethiopia, Yemen and Afghanistan. In the near future, a fifth ship will call at Chornomorsk to load 30,000 wheat for Somalia. In total, almost 1 million tons of grain were sent to the countries of the African continent.
“Ukraine remains the guarantor of global food security. The presence of Ukrainian grain on world markets has a positive effect on the price level. Thus, the price of wheat on the European and American markets fell significantly. Food becomes more accessible to those who are one step away from a humanitarian disaster. I express my gratitude to the partners from the UN and Turkey for guaranteeing the safety of the “grain corridor”, – commented the Minister of Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov.
At the suggestion of the United Nations, Ukraine, Turkey and UN Secretary General António Guterres signed the Initiative on safe transportation of grain and food products from the Ukrainian ports of Odesa, Chornomorsk and Pivdennyi on July 22 in Istanbul.
