Grain prices in Ukrainian ports did not rise, despite the blackout
Despite the blackout in Ukraine last week, grain prices in the ports did not rise.
Last week, during the blackout in Ukraine, the consequence of which was a decrease in trading activity, traders in the ports of Great Odesa were in no hurry to raise the prices of wheat and corn.
After russian missile attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure on November 23, almost all river and sea ports were forced to stop working, including for security reasons. Also, after the blackout of 90% of Ukraine, logistics and the entire operation of the export market deteriorated significantly. For example, railway sections in Kyiv, Dnipro, Mykolaiv, as well as in Lviv Region, Vinnytsia Region, Sumy and Kharkiv Region, were not working, reports IA “APK-Inform”.
Analysts explain that the price situation continued to be influenced, in particular, by the preponderance of supply over demand. The reduction of prices was hindered by high tariffs for freight transportation, the unwillingness of agrarians to make significant concessions in price, as well as low rates of corn harvesting. In the ports of the Danube and Great Odesa, traders offered $162-190/ton for corn on SRT-port terms, in isolated cases — $195-205/ton SRT-port.N
and food wheat and fodder prices varied between $168-205 and $160-190/ton SRT-port, occasionally reaching $210-215 and $195/ton.
