Great Britain will buy American LNG instead of russian
The governments of Great Britain and the United States are preparing to conclude an agreement on the supply of American LNG to the United Kingdom.
The agreement provides that Great Britain will receive up to 10 billion cubic meters of LNG annually. The agreement should enter into force in 2023. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak may announce the conclusion of the agreement in the coming days, The Telegraph reports.
Previously, almost half of the natural gas of the United Kingdom was produced on the North Sea shelf. The rest of the needs were covered by imports. The largest suppliers of natural gas were Norway, Qatar, the USA and Russia. LNG accounted for approximately 17% of energy imports.
Last year, Great Britain imported 3.12 billion cubic meters from russia (4% of all volumes). However, already in June, the country reduced the volume of russian gas imports by 75%.
