Greece proposes to create a corridor between the ports of Odesa and Alexandroupolis

The strategic infrastructure project is to connect the Ukrainian Black Sea region with the southern EU via Bulgaria and Romania.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has proposed creating a new transport and energy corridor that would connect Odesa with the Greek port of Alexandroupolis via Bulgarian Varna and Romanian Constanta, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

“I would like Odesa to be at one end of an ambitious, comprehensive connectivity project that would start in the port of Alexandroupolis, go through Varna, Constanta and finally reach Odesa. This is a project that can be proposed for EU funding,” he said during the 4th Ukraine-Southeast Europe Summit.

The idea involves not only transport connections, but also infrastructure for electricity transmission and gas transportation. According to Mitsotakis, this will allow Ukraine to obtain an alternative and faster logistics route than maritime transportation, and will bring the country closer to the European energy market.

“This is a project that would provide an additional communication corridor for Ukraine, much faster than transporting goods by sea,” the Prime Minister emphasized.

Earlier, USM reported that Greece could become Ukraine’s partner in the restoration and development of the maritime industry.
