Greece to transfer 24 Sea Sparrow ship-based missiles to Ukraine to strengthen defense
Greece has decided to transfer 24 Sea Sparrow missiles to Ukraine, which will strengthen the defense capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
This assistance is part of Athens’ broader military support in the fight against Russian aggression, Ekathimerini reports.
The Sea Sparrow missiles, which have been in service with Greece for about 40 years, are considered obsolete by local military standards. Ukraine already has the necessary launchers to integrate these anti-aircraft systems, which provide short-range air defense.
The transfer of the missiles is part of a larger assistance from Greece to Ukraine, which includes the supply of artillery shells, weapons and ammunition. The Greek government emphasizes that these supplies do not reduce the country’s defense capabilities, particularly in the Aegean Sea.
Earlier, USM reported that Ukraine will receive 14 RHIB rigid hull naval boats from Australia to strengthen maritime defense.
