Greek ship detained in Chornomorsk leaves port

Lawyers have secured the release of a Greek shipowner’s vessel in the Black Sea Seaport.
This was reported by the Odesa office of the law firm “Ilyashev & Partners”.
The vessel, which belongs to a Greek shipowner and was detained in the Black Sea Seaport after loading over 12 thousand tons of grain crops worth over 4 million USD, has left the port.
The lawyers said that due to the delay in cargo clearance for more than two months, the vessel remained moored without permission to leave.
“The shipowner and his vessel became hostages of a conflict situation between participants in the supply chain of goods, on the one hand, and customs authorities, on the other. This created significant risks and losses for the shipowner due to the forced long-term downtime of the vessel, possible damage to the vessel due to regular attacks on port infrastructure, spoilage of cargo, etc.,” the report says.
In particular, according to them, the charterer evaded providing the shipowner with truthful information and each time promised a quick solution to the problem, but the ship continued to stand in the port.
The lawyers took a set of necessary measures: they developed a legal strategy, prepared and sent requests to the USPA, the Shipping Administration, Odesa Customs, the captain of the port of Chornomorsk and the ship’s agent, and also held negotiations with the parties.
It should be noted that, out of court, they managed to achieve full payment of the demurrage to the shipowner and the release of the ship.
