Guterres plans to discuss the Grain Agreement with Ukraine, Turkey and the Russian Federation
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres plans to discuss the issue of Ukrainian grain exports and the renewal of the Grain Agreement.
To this end, Guterres plans to meet with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov.
Guterres clarified that he will meet with each of the three named persons separately, writes Ukrinform.
“Obviously, this issue will be discussed during our discussions. I won’t say how optimistic or pessimistic I am, the only thing you can be sure of is that I remain determined to do everything possible to restore the Black Sea Initiative,” Guterres said.
The Secretary General reiterated that these “efforts are not being made in order to violate the sanctions regime, but within the framework of the sanctions regime”, so that “unwanted deterrent factors” do not arise when they are introduced.
