Hundreds of archaeological finds were discovered on the territory of the shallow Kahovskyi Reservoir
As a result of the destruction of the Kakhovska HPP by the Russians and a sharp drop in the water level, a significant section of the coastline was exposed. For the first time in 70 years, the territories that were under the waters of the Dnipro came to the surface.
Employees of the Khortytsia National Reserve conduct daily inspections to preserve these monuments and find archaeological material, the Ministry of Culture said.
During this period, experts found several hundred archaeological objects made of metal, ceramics and wood, as well as more than 1,000 fragments of ceramic products.
During raids and reconnaissance trips, archaeological monuments were found, including:
• ceramics of different times and purposes, starting from the Eneolithic period (6-5 thousand BC) and ending with the 19th century;
• flint tools represent ancient tools for hunting or processing.;
• metal objects are represented by a wide range of finds, the most interesting of them are coins, because they date best of all and can carry a number of useful information;
• glass is one of the most fragile materials, it is much rarer; but still the employees of the Reserve find fragments of medieval bottles and even glass bombs.
After discovery, all these things undergo camera processing and are entered into the field description, on the basis of which an archaeological report will be compiled in the future.
Previously, USM reported that a boat, which may be 500 years old, was discovered in the Khortytsia National Reserve, at the site of the shallowed Kakhovskyi Reservoir.
