Hungary has expressed its complaints about the renewed EU-Ukraine trade agreement

Hungary said that the draft agreement allegedly does not contain the necessary mechanisms to protect farmers from competition.

The Hungarian government has expressed concern about the proposals for the updated Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement between the EU and Ukraine. This is reported by Ukrinform.

State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture of Hungary József Víszky told reporters in Brussels that the document does not provide any guarantees to protect Hungarian farmers.

“We are convinced that the proposal does not provide for mechanisms that could protect the interests of Hungarian farmers from the influx of Ukrainian imports. Our priority is to protect the national producer,” said State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture József Víszky.

As a reminder, the updated agreement is being discussed by the ministers of agriculture of the EU countries. The initiator of the discussion was Slovakia, while Estonia emphasized the need to make trade conditions more favorable for Ukraine, which is in a state of war.

Ukraine also recently joined the High Seas Agreement to protect ecosystems.
