Hungary supports the continuation of restrictions on imports from Ukraine
Hungarian officials insist on extending restrictions on the import of at least two crops from Ukraine.
The Hungarian government is ready to ease the blocking of agricultural products from Ukraine in the long term. However, the state is now insisting on extending the restrictions until the end of 2023 for at least two products — sunflower and corn. This is written by Elevatorist with reference to the Minister of Agriculture of Hungary, Istvan Nagy.
The minister believes that such measures will help the EU to prepare for the presence of Ukrainian agricultural products on the European market. At the same time, Ukrainian grain must be sent to the markets of third world countries.
“The ban on imports makes sense from an economic point of view only if it lasts at least until the harvest and storage of the new crop. In the case of wheat and rape, this can be done until September 15, but not in the case of corn and sunflower. Therefore, the logical step would be to extend the EU import ban until December 31, at least for these two products,” Nagy said.
