Hungary will continue the ban on the import of Ukrainian grain despite the EU decision
The Hungarian government plans to close the border for some grain products from Ukraine starting September 16.
“If the EU does not extend the ban on the import of some Ukrainian grain products, which expires on September 15, Hungary will introduce a ban in order to protect the domestic market,” said the country’s Minister of Agriculture István Nagy.
According to the Minister of Agriculture, cheap Ukrainian agricultural products flooded the European market duty-free, which also creates difficulties for producers of agricultural products.”Despite the fact that the crop is better – corn is expected to reach near record levels this year – cheap competition makes it difficult to sell,” he explained.
