On April 2, the official part of the change took place. The head of the 28th UAE Bohdan Gavryliuk gave the head of the 29th Yuri Otruba a symbolic key to the station. They also signed an act of acceptance and transfer of the station. Then there was a change of blue and yellow flags on the flagpole.
On April 3, the participants of the 28th wintering party left the station. In the near future, the Ukrainian icebreaker “Noosfera” will deliver them, as well as the participants of the seasonal expedition to Chile. From there, polar explorers will reach Ukraine by plane and land transport.
The 28th UAE has 14 participants. For a whole year, they conducted research in the Antarctic in three main areas (meteorology, biology, geophysics) and supported the station’s activities.
Earlier, USM reported that a new international study had started on the “Noosfera” icebreaker.
Recently, scientists published a video of a baby whale playing with the “Noosfera” icebreaker. The video was taken when the ship was heading through the Penola Strait in the Antarctic (area of the Ukrainian station “Akademik Vernadskyi”).
