IGC predicts record 3 billion tons of grain in global supplies

For the first time, supplies will exceed 3 billion tons due to the increase in wheat and corn harvests.

The International Grains Council (IGC) has raised its forecast for the 2025/26 season: world grain production will be 2.412 billion tons, and total supplies will exceed 3 billion tons for the first time. This is reported by Elevatorist.

According to a report dated September 18, production will increase by 87 million tons (+4%) compared to last year and by 8 million tons more than expected a month ago. In particular, the wheat harvest is forecast at 819 million tons (+2.5% y/y), corn – 1.29 billion tons (+5%).

Despite low stocks, record harvests will also ensure an increase in trade: the volume of international grain trade is expected at 438 million tons (+15 million y/y) – the second highest figure in history.

In the soybean segment, production will remain stable at 429 million tonnes, but consumption will grow by 3% due to increased processing for feed, food and industrial purposes. Record soybean trade is expected at 185 million tonnes, primarily due to demand in Asia.

The IGC Grain and Oilseed Price Index remained almost unchanged in September, but was 4% lower than last year.

Meanwhile, USM reported that Ukrainian farmers will file claims for refunds of export duties on rapeseed.
