IMO approved the new distribution of traffic to the ports of Great Odessa
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has approved Ukraine’s proposal to introduce changes to the existing traffic distribution systems to the ports of Great Odesa.
According to the results of the 106th session of the Maritime Safety Committee, the IMO supported Ukraine’s proposal to amend the existing traffic distribution systems “Approaches to the ports of Odesa and Illichivsk” and “Between the ports of Odesa and Illichivsk” by combining them into a single traffic distribution system “Approaches to the ports of Chornomorsk, Odesa and Pivdennyi”.
A working group consisting of employees of the Shipping Administration and specialists of State Hydrographic State Administration completed the task of revising the system of establishing vessel traffic routes.
The changes approved by the IMO improve the system of established routes for the movement of vessels in the northwestern part of the Black Sea, bring the system of routes that functioned at the national level into compliance with the system of established routes adopted by the IMO and implemented at the international level.
The proposal adopted by the IMO makes certain changes to the existing parts of the traffic distribution system (TDS) to improve the safety of shipping and to eliminate the differences between the TDS in force at the national level and the TDS adopted by the IMO in 1981. The changes also update such data as the WGS 84 coordinate system, the name of the CPP, the numbering and names of the parts of the CPP, the names of some ports, marine navigation charts.
The updated SRR establishes the safest routes in the deepest waters for vessels heading to and from the Ukrainian ports of Chornomorsk, Odesa, and Pivdennyi, as well as in the direction of Mykolaiv and Kherson ports. The SRR is designed in such a way as to simplify traffic flow patterns in the arrival/departure zones and to organize the movement of ships entering/leaving the ports of Great Odessa in the most optimal way.
Changes to the SRR “Approaches to the ports of Chornomorsk, Odesa and Pivdennyi” will be implemented six months after their adoption by the IMO Maritime Safety Committee, i.e. from June 1, 2023.
