In exchange for compensation: Bulgaria will resume imports of Ukrainian grain
Bulgaria will lift the ban on the import of agricultural products from Ukraine when EU measures to stabilize the market come into force.
The Bulgarian government is ready to resume the import of Ukrainian grain when a number of EU measures aimed at stabilizing the market “come into effect”, writes Euractiv.
We will remind you that on May 3, the European Commission officially banned the import of certain agricultural products from Ukraine to Bulgaria, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary. At the same time, the Commission detailed the offer of financial support for these five EU countries.
In particular, EU measures include a second financial package to support farmers in the amount of €100 million.
So far, Bulgaria has received €16 million in compensation from the EU for allowing the export of Ukrainian grain and food products through its territory. The country has asked for another €50 million, even though “Bulgarian grain producers receive hundreds of millions of euros in direct European subsidies.”
As previously reported by USM, five EU states will approve the support package at the next meeting of the special committee on common organization of agricultural markets. After that, the decision will be published in the Official Journal of the EU, and it will enter into force the day after publication.
