In France, a Russian sailboat was not allowed to participate in the maritime festival
Local Ukrainians and French activists succeeded in canceling the participation of the Russian sailing ship “Standart” in the large maritime festival in Brest, France.
Svitlana Zhestan, president of the “Iruaz – Ukraine” association, told Ukrinfrom about this.
“We managed to meet with Fortune Pellicano, the deputy mayor and the president of the sea festivals of Brest. He stated that the ship “Standart”, which is under EU sanctions, which also applies to historical replicas of ships, will not be able to dock in Brest during the holiday. That is, he will not be accepted and will not be able to attend the sea holiday,” said Zhestan.
It is noted that the day before the association “Iroaz – Ukraine” and the initiative group “No to “Standard” in Europe” held another rally on Freedom Square in Brest to make sure that the local authorities will implement the decision.
According to her, now according to the official documents, the ship can only come closer and lower the boat to take food and water.
According to local media, “Standart” until recently was freely based in another French port – La Rochelle, from which it went to Brest to take part in the Brest Maritime Festival, one of the largest maritime events in the world, which will take place from 12 to July 17. A few days ago, this ship was also registered on the website of the festival, but now it has been removed from the official page of the festival.
The ship, which was under the Russian tricolor, changed it to the Cook Islands flag in the spring, and its captain, Volodymyr Martus, said that he would still try to enter the port of Brest. Martus insists that he has the right to swim freely in French waters, considers the prefect’s order illegal and will challenge it in court.
