In Japan, a russian man was convicted in the case of a shipwreck in which sailors died
In Japan, the assistant captain of the russian trawler was sentenced to a suspended sentence. In 2021, the ship collided with a Japanese schooner, as a result of which three sailors died.
The court of the Japanese city of Asahikawa in Hokkaido Prefecture sentenced Pavel Dobryansky, the third assistant to the captain of the russian trawler Amur, to three years in prison with a five-year suspended sentence, rosZMI reports.
According to the lawyer, since Dobryansky does not have a visa, he will be deported to russian federation.
The sailor was found guilty in the case of the collision between the trawler “Amur” and the Japanese schooner “Hokko-Maru 8” in May 2021. The Japanese ship capsized, three sailors died.
The argument of Dobryansky’s defense was that the collision occurred in bad weather conditions, and the Japanese schooner was allegedly not visible on radar due to its plastic hull.
Prosecutors claimed that the sailor was not paying close attention to the evidence of the radar, did not notice the schooner and, as a result, could not avoid the collision. The prosecution demanded three years and six months in prison for Dobryansky.
