In Odesa, defense measures will be strengthened in ports and infrastructure will be modernized.

Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Kuleba announced the strengthening of defense measures in the sea ports of Odesa and announced measures to modernize the port infrastructure, the Ministry of Communityies and Territories Development reported.

These steps are aimed at ensuring the security of ports, personnel and the restoration of facilities damaged by shelling.

Oleksiy Kuleba visited the ports of Odesa, Chornomorsk and Pivdennyi. Together with representatives of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority and the Administration of Shipping, he inspected the condition of port facilities and discussed measures to increase the defense capability of ports.

Kuleba emphasized that the stable operation of Ukrainian seaports is a guarantor of food security in the world, especially in times of war. With this in mind, the security of port infrastructure, personnel and ships is of primary importance.

“We are strengthening defense measures in every port. We are implementing additional measures that will increase the level of defense capability and security. It is also necessary to provide additional protection for the personnel of enterprises on the territory of the seaport, including the arrangement of locations with mobile shelters. In addition, funds will be allocated for the restoration of the infrastructure of the Odesa port. In particular, this will include the modernization of key facilities and strengthening of the overall security of port areas,” he emphasized.

According to the ministry, 86 vessels are currently waiting at the approach to the ports of Odesa, Chornomorsk, and Pivdennyi, which should export about 2 million tons of cargo. Despite regular Russian shelling of infrastructure, Ukraine remains a reliable supplier of food to more than 50 countries.

Kuleba also held a meeting with port managers and military representatives, during which they discussed the functioning of ports, protection of critical infrastructure and ensuring the security of coastal facilities.

USM previously reported that as a result of Russian attacks on the port infrastructure of Ukraine, prices for wheat and export insurance have risen.
