In the port of Klaipeda, berths for grain loading were reconstructed
In the Lithuanian port of Klaipėda, the last stage of reconstruction of berths for loading agricultural products was completed.
The berths were modernized in such a way that in the future it would be possible to provide a greater depth near them, to increase the cargo capacity and to fully load vessels of a larger capacity, writes Rail.insider with reference to the information of the port.
During the implementation of the project, three berths used by the Klaipėda Sea Freight Company “Bega” for loading bulk products were reconstructed in stages.
Before the reconstruction, ships with a displacement of up to 75,000 tons of water could be moored at the berths. Now, it is possible to deepen the berths to 15.3 m and moor ships with a displacement of up to 130,000 tons. The cost of the project is 4.25 million euros.
“This reconstruction of the quays and the dredging of the water area near them will create conditions for the Bega cargo company to receive ships with a larger capacity, and for farmers to have attractive conditions for exporting their products,” said Algis Latakas, director general of the Klaipėda State Seaport Directorate.
As previously reported, the port of Klaipeda announced its readiness to ship Ukrainian grain.
