India did not let a tanker with Russian oil pass

A tanker carrying Russian oil for state-owned Indian Oil Corp. was denied entry to a local port.

This happened due to the lack of proper documentation on the tanker’s seaworthiness, Bloomberg writes.

The Andaman Skies loaded 767,000 barrels in Murmansk on February 24 and was due to unload in Vadinar on March 30.

“Indian regulations require tankers over 20 years old to have a seaworthiness certificate issued by a member of the International Association of Classification Societies or an organization authorized by the local regulator,” the anonymous sources said.

According to them, the tanker was certified by a local consulting agency, Dakar Class, which is not recognized by the Indian authorities.

The ship is currently in the Arabian Sea between Oman and India, still fully loaded with oil. According to ship tracking data, the tanker has stopped sailing.

It should be noted that the tanker Andaman Skies sails under the flag of Honduras. The vessel was built in 2004. The owner of the vessel is the company Durbeen Navigation Ltd.

As previously reported by USM, oil exports from the United States to India have reached a two-year high due to sanctions against the Russian Federation.
