India increases supplies of American oil against the background of sanctions against the Russian Federation
About 7.6 million barrels of American oil will arrive in India in April.
This is the highest figure in the last year against the background of the tightening of sanctions against Russian oil, writes Reuters.
Thus, India, which is the world’s third-largest oil importer and consumer, is seeking to diversify its supplies, as new US sanctions against Russia threaten to cut Russian oil sales to India.
“About 7.6 million barrels of oil, or 256,000 barrels per day, were headed for India on three very large oil tankers and three Suezmax vessels, according to ship tracking company Kpler,” the report said.
India was the biggest buyer of Russian oil last year after other groups dropped purchases following Western sanctions against Moscow over its February 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
As a reminder, at the end of February 2024, the Russian “Sovcomflot” and 14 tankers associated with the company were on the US sanctions list.
As previously reported by USM, the operator of the world’s largest oil refining complex, the Indian holding Reliance Industries, will not accept oil from the tankers of the Russian company “Sovcomflot”. The refusal is due to US sanctions.
