It was decided to exclude the Port of Odesa from the UNESCO list

The Council for the Protection of Cultural Heritage decided to exclude the port of Odesa from the UNESCO zone.

During the meeting of the Scientific and Methodological Council for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, the expansion of the boundaries of the territory of the UNESCO World Heritage Site was considered.

We are talking about the “Historical Center of Odesa”, the director of the Department of Culture, International Cooperation and European Integration, Ivan Liptuga, said on his Facebook page.

The council decided to exclude the port from the main facility and expand the zone (blue line) deep from the sea in the northern and southern directions by several blocks, including the territory of Shevchenko Park.

“Also, the UNESCO buffer zone (purple line), which delineates the boundaries of the already existing historical areas of the city, was expanded. The final approval of the new borders will be taken by the UNESCO Committee in Paris this fall,” explained the director of the department.

As previously reported by USM, the need to exclude the Odesa seaport from the UNESCO list began to be discussed at the beginning of May.
