Kashuba: In the US, the maritime and river industry is the only infrastructure

In the American port management system, which is being studied by the Ministry of Development and Infrastructure, there is no division into the maritime or river sector.

We are talking about studying the US experience within the framework of the program “Strengthening the Port Management System”, organized with the support of the US Department of State, the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine reports.

Deputy Minister Andriy Kashuba, during a visit to key US ports, noted that the American port management system demonstrates integrity and efficiency: there is no division into the maritime or river sector – it is a single infrastructure managed by the state using a unified approach.

“All ports operate on the principle of “port-landlord” – as single land users who own and maintain critical infrastructure: berths, territories, railway entrances,” Andriy Kashuba emphasized.

In particular, the Ukrainian delegation visited:

Jacksonville (Florida)

At the port of JAXPORT, they got acquainted with approaches to port infrastructure modernization, public-private interaction, and tools for increasing the efficiency of intermodal transportation.

They discussed the use of IT solutions for managing cargo flows and attracting investments in critical infrastructure.

Tulsa (Oklahoma)

At the ports of Catussa, Muskogee, and Oakley, they studied the role of river ports in global supply chains.

They got acquainted with multimodal transportation models, cooperation with industrial parks, investment and regional development mechanisms.

Los Angeles (California)

At the ports of Los Angeles, Long Beach, and Wainimi, they explored technological solutions for digital logistics management, cyber incident response systems, and resilience strategies in the face of modern challenges.

Participants also joined a conference on the security and resilience of seaports in the face of modern challenges.

As previously reported by USM, Ukraine is studying the experience of the United States in the field of port management. Key meetings dedicated to seaport management strategies were held in Washington.
