Kernel plans to invest $400 million in energy projects

Within two years, the Kernel agroholding plans to invest half a billion dollars in energy projects.

This was stated by the company’s CEO Yevgeny Osypov, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

“We have made a strategic decision to go into the energy sector. Our liquidity is one of the components of these new investments. We have already implemented a pilot project for $20 million last year, and over the next two years we plan to invest $400 million in this direction,” he said at the Forbes Agro conference in Kyiv on February 26.

According to Osypov, the company is planning large-scale projects in wind and solar generation, as well as energy storage systems (ESS) with a total capacity of about 600 MW. Currently, the agroholding is at the stage of attracting financing from international financial institutions, in particular from the EBRD.

Kernel CEO recalled that the agroholding began investing in energy back in 2018 – then the company invested $230 million in cogeneration. Currently, all Kernel assets are fully supplied with their own “green” energy, which meets global standards and EU norms.

Earlier, USM reported that Agro-Region was sold to Kernel without reducing the price despite the military risks.
