“Kernel” uses AI to predict grain development

The Ukrainian agricultural holding “Kernel” uses artificial intelligence to predict the phases of grain crop development.

This year, the company is using an AI model to predict the development phases of corn and sunflower, the “Kernel” reported.

This is the agricultural holding’s own development, which provides an opportunity to more accurately plan plant protection and optimize the load on equipment.

For each of the crops, a different approach is used and a separate AI model is trained based on a large amount of weather and other data, such as:

• sum of effective temperatures from the date of sowing;

• the amount of precipitation since the date of sowing;

• solar radiation;

• geographical location of the field;

• hybrid characteristics;

• number of days after sowing;

• weather conditions for the sowing period.

The model also learns from surveys that agronomists have made using the Scouting mobile application over the past years. For example, over three years, experts examined corn more than 40,000 times in all phases. Critical — were marked 3 thousand times.

Thanks to this, the AI model predicts the development of crops in the season as effectively as possible and makes it possible to simulate scenarios for the next year.

Earlier, USM reported that the Ukrainian agricultural holding Kernel resumed forward programs for oil crops.
