Klaipeda Port will become a key hub for verifying the origin of Ukrainian grain

Ukraine continues cooperation with Lithuania and the UK in combating trade in stolen Ukrainian grain.

The memorandum was signed within the framework of the Berlin Conference of Ministers of Agriculture, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine reports.

This is an updated Memorandum on the launch of a unique Grain Verification Scheme (GVS) system to combat the illegal export of Ukrainian grain from the occupied territories.

“This is the first step at the ministerial level within the framework of the implementation of a strategic agreement between Ukraine and the UK, which will become the basis of our cooperation for the next hundred years,” said Minister of Agricultural Policy Vitaly Koval.

The pilot implementation of this initiative will take place in Lithuania – in the port of Klaipeda, which will become a key hub for verifying the origin of Ukrainian agricultural products.

According to the minister, the agreement provides for:

— transparent control over grain: GVS will allow identifying stolen grain and stopping its illegal transportation;

— an innovative database from the UK: advanced technologies for determining the place of cultivation will help protect the interests of Ukrainian farmers and market transparency.

Recall that in 2024 it became known that Ukraine and the UK are developing a system for accurately determining the origin of grain exported by the Russian Federation. This will help identify facts of theft of agricultural products.
