Industrial and construction group “Kovalska” acquired a fleet for the transportation of sand by the Dnipro and Danube rivers.

“The development of own sand mining is one of the strategic directions of the Kovalska group. We use this natural material in the production of concrete and other products. Historically, due to its specificity, the river sand market in Ukraine is often associated with illegal mining, and such risks are unacceptable for a stable and transparent business. That’s why we created and integrated into the group a new full-cycle sand mining business line: deposit—mining—transportation—transshipment. In addition to our own deposits, we purchased the necessary equipment, received all permits to work on river quarries,” said the company’s general director, Serhiy Pylypenko, in an  interview with CTS.

In general, the company purchased a full cycle of equipment and vessels for extraction, transportation, unloading and stacking of river sand: one dredger; hydraulic overload installation; three non-self-propelled barges (ore carriers); one self-propelled barge “Artma”; one pusher tug; floating crane; loader; weighing complex and other auxiliary equipment.

In addition, a separate category of “river and sea transport” workers is currently being formed in the state of “Kovalska” — personnel who work on water: ship captains, ship mechanics and others.

“The new division, which will be engaged in the extraction and transportation of river sand, will contribute to the creation of approximately 150 jobs,” emphasized Serhiy Pylypenko.
