Kyslytsia: 400 million people rely on Ukrainian grain
Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN Serhiy Kyslytsia explained the role of the UN in supporting Ukraine during 1000 days of full-scale Russian invasion.
Ukraine’s post-spreader to the UN Serhiy Kyslytsia emphasized the important role of international cooperation during more than 1000 days of the Russian Federation’s full-scale war against Ukraine. This is reported by Ukrinform.
The diplomat emphasized that the UN contributed to ensuring access of Ukrainian grain to world markets. This is critical for maintaining food security, in particular in Africa and Asia, where more than 400 million people rely on Ukrainian agricultural products.
Also, thanks to the mediation of the UN, it was possible to implement the “Grain Agreement”, which allowed Ukrainian grain to return to international markets. Until Russia withdrew from the agreement, the UN actively facilitated the export of tens of millions of tons of grain, most of which was sent to countries of the Global South.
Regarding humanitarian aid, Kyslytsia noted that over $10 billion in aid had been provided to Ukraine through UN structures. The UN is also actively involved in the restoration of critical infrastructure, demining, and the introduction of environmentally friendly technologies in Ukraine.
According to the Permanent Representative, the previous day the UN hosted an event “Environmental Security in War and Armed Conflict,” organized by the Ukrainian delegation. The event, in particular, focused on the damage caused by Russia to the environment of Ukraine.
As USM wrote, the UN previously reported that as a result of Russian attacks on Ukrainian ports, wheat and insurance prices had increased.
