Lithuania almost completely abandoned Russian grain
The Baltic country almost completely stopped the import of grain from Russia and Belarus, but increased the volume of transit to other countries.
After March 18, 2024, the export of Russian and Belarusian grain to Lithuania decreased by 95%. This was stated by the director of the State Food and Veterinary Service of Lithuania, Audroni Mikalauskene, Ukrinform writes.
So, since March 18, the Service inspects every vehicle with grain imported from high-risk countries — the Russian Federation and its occupied regions and from Belarus. Specialists check the origin of grain and the presence of prohibited impurities in batches of grain intended for the EU market.
However, the number of shipments from the Russian Federation and Belarus via Lithuania to other EU countries has almost doubled. According to the Service, in the period from March 18 to April 16, 292 shipments of Russian and Belarusian grain with a total weight of 18,000 tons were transported through Lithuania to EU countries.
Only last week, 25 consignments of grain destined for the German market passed through the port of Klaipeda.
It will be recalled that earlier the EU limited the import of Russian grain as a compromise in the agreement with Ukraine.
