Lithuania will help export Ukrainian grain
Lithuania can help export Ukrainian grain against the background of a temporary ban on the sale of agricultural products from Ukraine to Poland.
The Lithuanian government plans to help Ukraine export up to 1 million tons of grain. Such a scenario is being discussed against the background of a temporary ban on the export of grain from Ukraine to Poland. “APK-Inform” writes about this with reference to the statement of the Minister of Economy and Innovation of Lithuania Aušrini Armonaite.
“Klaipeda port can help Poland solve the current situation and guarantee the export of Ukrainian grain outside the EU. Lithuania plans to safely transport up to 1 million tons of grain from Ukraine,” the minister said.
Lithuanian railways started transporting small volumes of Ukrainian grain to Klaipeda port as early as last May. Transporting larger volumes of agricultural products is hindered by complex logistics. The main problem is the different width of railway tracks. Thus, Ukraine and Lithuania still use Soviet standards, and Poland – European ones. Because of this, the rolling stock has to be changed at the border, explained the president of the Association of Lithuanian Sea Freight Companies, Vaidotas Šilejka.
