Maersk denies the russian origin of cargo on one of the company’s tankers

The ship, which was not allowed to enter the port of Spain with presumably russian cargo, is looking for a new destination.

The Singapore-flagged Maersk Magellan tanker is looking for another port after being denied entry to the Spanish port of Tarragona on February 10. The port administration established that the diesel fuel transported by the Maersk Magellan was previously on the Nobel ship, which flew under the russian flag until July 1, 2022, and later changed it to the Cameroonian one.

The Magellan became the first tanker to be refused entry to a Spanish port after the rules related to limiting the prices of russian oil products came into effect on February 5.

“The decision of the Spanish authorities forced us to reconsider the flight. We are consulting with experts to ensure that the company is acting in accordance with the sanctions against russia,” said Maersk Tankers’ head of compliance, Christian Köller.

Before that, Maersk Tankers said that official documents indicated that the cargo was of Turkish origin.
