Methanol vessels have become more popular than LNG vessels

In October 2022, orders for methanol vessels exceeded orders for LNG vessels for the first time.

The portfolio of orders for methanol ships in October included 18 container ships for Maersk, COSCO Shipping Lines and OOCL, writes TTS. In total, 47 container carriers running on methanol have been ordered and are in operation in the world.

In addition, 25 chemical tankers operating on methanol have been ordered and are in operation.

There are also shipowners who have changed their plans to purchase dual-fuel vessels running on LNG and have ordered vessels running on traditional marine fuel and with scrubbers.
