Ministry of Economy: the Polish grain import ban cost Ukraine 143 million dollars

Ukraine lost $143 million last month due to the Polish government’s decision to ban the import of Ukrainian agricultural products.

The European Commission will pay Polish farmers “compensation for nothing”, as the protest was “a bluff on the part of Polish farmers”, said Deputy Economy Minister Taras Kachka at the Brussels Economic Forum. According to Bloomberg,  Kachka noted that the Ukrainian side suffered losses from Warsaw’s unilateral decision in the amount $143 million

In April, Poland and several other eastern EU members imposed restrictions on the export of Ukrainian agricultural products, citing a sharp drop in market prices that hurt their farmers. This step caused criticism from the European Commission.

Kaczka noted that the new decision of Brussels improves the situation, but does not solve the problem.

“Thanks to the intervention of the European Commission, we are getting a certain easing of the situation, but the situation is not resolved,” Kachka stated.
